Live Well With Loss - Barb Hildebrand, Certified Grief Recovery Specialist®

Welcome!

Congratulations on taking action to explore how to help yourself with your grief.  Life is filled with many different types of loss and unfortunately, most of us did not get taught or shown how to cope with death, loss and grief in a healthy way.  It leaves many very unprepared, not knowing how to work through a painful loss resulting in unresolved grief that can be very overwhelming.

The Grief Recovery Method® Support programs are specifically designed to help with all types of loss.  Many associate loss only with death and yet there are 43 different types of loss. Some examples are ending of relationships, loss of a job/career, moving, or a change in financial situation to name a few. All can be very life impacting and each needs to be grieved, healed and recovered from.

It is possible to heal and recover from all losses and that is an important message for you to hear.  It often feels as though the loss is all consuming and will always remain that way, however, with the Grief Recovery Method  - you are given the tools/method to be complete with your loss which allows recovery and the ability to live life well again.

What does "recovery" and being "complete" mean?

They are both Grief Recovery terms:

- "Recovery" means feeling better. Recovery means claiming your circumstances instead of your circumstances claiming you and your happiness. Recovery is finding new meaning for living, without the fear of being hurt again. Recovery is being able to enjoy fond memories without having them precipitate painful feelings of regret or remorse. Recovery is acknowledging that it is perfectly alright to feel sad from time to time and to talk about those feelings no matter how those around you react. Recovery is being able to forgive others when they say or do things that you know are based on their lack of knowledge about grief. Recovery is one day realizing that your ability to talk about the loss you've experienced is indeed normal and healthy. Most important - recovery means acquiring the skills that we should have been taught in childhood. These skills allow us to deal with loss directly.

- "Completeness" is the result of having delivered those emotional communications that either we never made, or we felt were never heard, or that need to be said again, with someone hearing us say them. It gives us the ability to say goodbye to any pain, which may be limiting us from fond memories, and say goodbye to any unmet hopes, dreams and expectations about the future.

What is the benefit to you?

The Grief Recovery Institute® was founded in the mid 1980s and has helped hundreds of thousands of people around the world heal from significant emotional loss. You benefit from the many years The Grief Recovery Method® has been taught, tested and proven with many grievers who have taken the program before you.  It is an amazing life changing, life coping skill that helps you identify, acknowledge and become emotionally complete with losses of any kind.

What programs are available?

I currently offer two programs - the Grief Recovery Method® Support Group program and the other is an individual Grief Recovery Method® One on One program.

Both programs provide a safe and confidential environment for you to look at your old beliefs about dealing with loss, which losses have affected your life, and take actions that will lead you to complete unresolved emotions that may still be causing you pain.  Grief is the normal and natural emotional response to loss, but most of the information we’ve learned about dealing with loss is intellectual. Although our Grief Support programs involve some educational elements, effective Grief Recovery must deal with your broken heart, which requires emotional support instead of intellectual explanations.

They are action-based programs that involve reading and writing assignments outlined in "The Grief Recovery Handbook – 20th Anniversary Expanded Edition".

Below is the information pertaining to each program to help you decide which one is most beneficial for you:
